The deportation and prosecution of foreign terrorist fighter under the international law

Our researcher Dr Bríd Ní Ghráinne was interviewed by Máirín Ní Ghadhra on the weekly news show 'an tSeachtain' about the prospects of prosecuting Lisa Smith under Irish law, how different states deal with the deportation and prosecution of foreign terrorist fighter, and relevant international legal obligations.

The interview pursued the case of Lisa Smith, an Irish citizen and former member of the Irish Defence Forces. Ms Smith sparked widespread controversy in Ireland when she allegedly joined ISIS after traveling in Syria in 2015. Ms Smith is currently in the custody of Turkish authorities who are about to deport her back to her native Ireland with her two-year-old daughter.
