In the last few years, there has been an increasing focus on Chinese and Russian “interference” in Western democracies. But the current debate, focused on the idea of “resilience”, largely ignores the internal problems within Western democracies that have made them vulnerable and the ways in which hyper-globalization and neoliberalism have facilitated such “interference”. Europeans should focus on making their own democracies more responsive to citizens instead of externalizing their own internal problems.

The lecture is organized as a side-event of the 12th International Symposium "Czech Foreign Policy", taking place on October 8th.

Hans Kundnani - senior research fellow in the Europe Programme, Chatham House

Jakub Eberle - senior researcher, Institute of International Relations Prague
